Broadband connection is a wider bandwidth type of internet connection for household consumers, small office or home office (SOHO) users. It is broad band since the band is broad compared to the narrow dial up bands running only 28 - 56 kbps.. Broadband can start at 128, 256, 384Kbps to 1Mbps for homeusers and even up to 3Mbps for small offices.
It can be in two types,
1. DSL - Digital Subscriber Line, usually uses high frequency on the same line the telephone system is using although telephone for voice uses lower frequency.. each user will have a dedicated line for them like the telephone.
Providers: PLDT, Bayantel, Globe, Smart, Digitel
* Note, All of these companies use their existing telephone network system to provide internet access through their core gateway. Although Smart and Globe has a wider option of connecting to end users since they already have their established cell sites and microwave transmitters which they use to connect to each home wirelessly, thus, it is still connected to a land telephone system that connects to their gateway and therefore it is the same DSL type of connection.
2. Cable - Uses the network of coaxial cables laid by cable companies running on different frequency. most users in a community share the bandwidth with this type of broadband internet connection.
Skycable, Destiny Cable
Who is providing your internet access? Mine is Smart Bro, running on 354Kbps, not the greatest internet access i had but I can live with it..
